What Are Bar Chords?

Bar chords (often spelled Barre) are simply a type of chord where one finger holds down multiple strings. Many guitarists often mistake this for always being every string, but in actual fact it should vary from one shape to another.

Bar chords are usually very challenging for guitarists and can take around 2 years to learn well, depending on the student and how much they practice them… as well as how they practice them. We use a range of exercises and techniques to help students learn them quicker.

Whilst barring is typically used for chord playing, it can also be applied for lead type situations.
